UC Office of the Provost, UC LEAF and UC Women Lead Sponsor Events for Female Faculty

The University of Cincinnati Office of the Provost will co-host a series of networking events with UC Women Lead and UC LEAF to focus on women faculty.

The events will provide in-depth exploration on how to craft a successful and satisfying career. The first event is a lunch for all women full professors from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m, Oct. 20. The lunch for full professors will focus on Leaving a Legacy in the Academy. Interested faculty can RSVP up to the day of the event.

In addition, afternoon receptions from 4:30-6 p.m. will be organized for all women associate professors on Oct. 26 and for all women assistant professors on Nov. 9. All events will take place in the Annie Laws Room, 407 Teacher’s College.

The associate and assistant professors receptions will include discussions around tailored career development plans. “Women have a lot of power that they are sometimes not aware of,” said Nagla Karim, associate professor of medicine, and member of the 2016-17 UC Women Lead cohort. “When women empower each other and come together, it is more likely a friendly environment with a powerful impact.”

UC Women Lead is in its third year of creating opportunities for women faculty and staff to network, obtain career coaching, and develop skills for improved work-life balance in order to reach their leadership goals. UC LEAF provides sustainable support for women and minority STEM faculty success through integrating initiatives for women and minority faculty, leadership reform, advocacy, and accountability. It aims to improve recruiting, hiring, retention, and success of women and minority faculty in the STEM disciplines.
