UC Clermont College Hosts Macy's Arts Sampler Feb. 18

UC Clermont College will be hosting family-friendly activities from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 18.

Sponsored by Macy's, ArtsWave's FREE annual arts festival connects people to an array of arts opportunities offered in our region. The annual Macy’s Arts Sampler celebrates the creative things — music, dance, theater, museums, and festivals — happening in large and small ways throughout our region.

All events are free and open to the public. UC Clermont is located at 4200 Clermont College Dr. in Batavia.

10–11 a.m.
Triple the Trouble

Location: Student Lounge, Peters-Jones

Sisters Aria, Bryce and Bailey, ages 14, 13 and 11 make up girl band

Triple the Trouble

.  Kick back with this cover band playing music for all ages. Enjoy age-appropriate pop music hits as well as originals.

Craft Corner

Location: Student Lounge, Peters-Jones

Practice your artistic skills at the craft tables with a variety of family-friendly activities.

Gallery Exhibit: "Old Modern, painting the women of modernism in old age" by Kim Rae Taylor

Location: Art Gallery, Snyder, Room 140

Women were an integral part of the avant-garde during the early  decades of the 20th century, making significant contributions to modern art and literature. "Old Modern" is a series of portrait paintings documenting these women in their elderly years since many lived long and productive lives. The exhibition is an extension of UCC Associate Professor Kim Taylor’s research of the women of the modernist period, examining their careers within the framework of gender and aging. It coincides with Women’s History Month.

 

11 a.m. – Noon 
Animal Drawing/Painting Workshop

Location: Art Lab, Snyder, Room 153

Join Professor Kelly Frigard for this creative workshop. Children will learn to draw and paint an animal using watercolor pencils. The instructor will work with students on basic proportions, line drawing and shading techniques to create individual animal portraits. Images will be provided, but children are invited to bring 8 x 10, color printed photos of their pet or favorite animal to use as source material. Come have some fun in this expressive drawing media!

For children ages 4-16, parents/guardians must accompany child.

 

Noon – 1 p.m.
“Singin’ in the Rain, Jr.”

Location: Krueger Auditorium, Peters-Jones, Room 130

The talented young students from the CCM Preparatory Jr. Musical Theatre Intensive will perform scenes from “Singin’ in the Rain, Jr.” Audience members are encouraged to participate in a song and dance from the musical along with the cast.  

 

Noon – 2 p.m.
Face Painting

Location: Student Lounge, Peters-Jones

Artist Jennifer Pilott, owner of Fabulous Faces by Jen, returns once again to create awesome works of art using your face as the canvas!

1 – 2 p.m.
Klimt-esque Serpent Print Workshop

Location: Art Lab, Snyder, Room 153

This family-friendly print workshop, led by Professor Kim Taylor, features decorative patterning in the Art Noveau style. Austrian born painter and illustrator Gustav Klimt was a leading member of the Art Noveau movement.  We will explore Klimt’s use of repeated patterns of rectangles, scales, circles, vine forms and more as we create a one-of-a-kind serpent print.

Families welcome. Parents/guardians must accompany younger children.

For more than 20 years, UC Clermont College has proudly participated in the Cincinnati ArtsWave Sampler as a venue in Clermont County. Celebrated annually, the arts sampler is one of the largest FREE arts festivals in the nation.

The entire event spotlights the Greater Cincinnati area’s many arts venues, artists and performers through its more than 100 free activities. As a participant, UC Clermont College features numerous family-friendly, arts-focused activities and workshops, and our Krueger Auditorium hosts everything from theatre and dance to hands-on music workshops.

The University of Cincinnati Clermont College celebrated more than $700,000 in scholarships awarded for 2023-24 during the annual Partnership and Scholarship Celebration held March 28 on the college’s Batavia campus.
