President Pinto Seeks 'Collective Thought' on UC s Direction, Aspirations
Attending his first University of Cincinnati Board of Trustees meeting as president, Neville G. Pinto emphasized how pleased he is to be back at the institution where he had spent 26 years as a teacher, researcher and administrator. He said he looks forward to reconnecting with the UC community and listening and learning from all its members to gain an understanding of their collective thought on our direction and aspirations.
Board Chairman Thomas Cassady presented Pinto a resolution from Ohio Governor John Kasich and Lt. Governor Mary Taylor to welcome UCs new president to Ohio and to the university.
About 15 minutes later, the governor also tweeted: Helping more Ohioans pursue the dream of college has been a priority & we look fwd to working with @Prez_Pinto to build upon our progress.
As the board meeting began, Cassady noted that today was President Pintos second day on the job, after starting on Presidents Day (Feb. 20). The chair also added hopefully that was a sign of an auspicious beginning for Pintos new role.
Welcome back. Were so glad youre here, Cassady said, as the room erupted with applause.
The president joked about pulling into campus to park on his first day as president in the same space where Presidents Joseph Steger and Nancy Zimpher once parked. It was quite a thrill I was expecting the police to give me ticket.
In a news conference prior to the board meeting, President Pinto told the gathered reporters that UC is a university on the move. It is a university that is student-centered. It is driven by our faculty. It is very proud to be located in the city of Cincinnati. Its a global university but definitely with a heart in this region and this city. That connection is very real. As we aspire to our global research aspirations, we will make sure that connection stays solid.
