Show your mom some appreciation with the Mother’s Day Weekend Brunch at Findlay Kitchen. In this Saturday morning brunch cooking class, Chef Lindsey Cook of The Jaded Fork will teach unique brunch recipes and techniques to help you create a stress-free and fun brunch menu. Rotate through a variety of hands-on culinary stations to make creative egg dishes, simple sticky buns, and gourmet French toast. Also, learn how to cure and use smoked salmon and explore easy bacon and sausage cooking techniques. Fresh-brewed La Terza coffee will be served, and the class kicks off with a Jaded Fork version of the mimosa. A variety of alcoholic beverages will also be available for purchase.

“No one is born a great cook; one learns to be one, so come learn alongside someone you love and can laugh with... your mom,” Cook said. The Mother’s Day Weekend Brunch will take place on May 12 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The course fee is $120 for two people.

In our Essential Oils and Herbs Workshop, you will have fun exploring some of the types, properties, and uses of essential oils and natural herbs. Learn how to use essential oils and natural herbs for personal/body care, around the house and for many home remedies. See demonstrations of their many uses and get some hands-on experience creating handcrafted products such as herbal teas, potpourri, room diffuser sprays and soaps for laundry and the body. The course will also cover important precautions when using essential oils and natural herbs.

The workshop is taught by Kristy A. Brandabur, RMA, CHLC, CMBFC, RA (AHHA) and owner of Metamorphosis: Holistic Wellness Center LLC. She has been in the health and fitness industry for more than 25 years.

“This is a great opportunity to bond over something that is healthful, fun, and educational,” Brandabur said. “Learning to make homemade body products and medicinals is beneficial for everyone.”

Essential Oils and Herbs Workshop takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Metamorphosis: Holistic Wellness Center. The course fee is $35, with an additional $10 fee for the essential oils used in class that is payable to the instructor. Bring your mother or daughter for a special discounted rate of two students for $55.

In our Essential Makeup Skills: Masterclass, you will learn about different types of makeup products and their uses and, how to choose the right products for their skin type and tone. You will also discover the proper makeup brushes and tools to use, and how to apply a basic daytime look confidently and convert it to a glamorous evening look in just a few steps—without the sales pitch and very public department store environment. You can find out what their makeup will do for you, what basics you need, how to select and purchase makeup, and how to handle some of the tools. Explore daytime and evening looks, how to minimize flaws, and how to take care of your skin. Bring your personal makeup bag to this fun and relaxed class and apply what you learn at the end of each class. The second and third sessions are hands-on, so come fresh-faced. You will start from scratch and learn how to apply makeup as if it were done professionally every day. Bring your makeup and stand-up mirror.

“Sometimes we need a little encouragement,” Strayhorn said. “For me, makeup artistry happens to be the tool that I use to help women feel a little more confident, stand up a little taller and be more courageous. The makeup itself doesn't make the woman beautiful because she's already that, but the confidence boost makeup has the ability to give can transcend far beyond skin deep.”

Essential Makeup Skills: Masterclass is taught by Erica Lynn Strayhorn, owner of Erica Lynn Makeup Artistry, LLC. The course takes place on Tuesdays from May 1 to May 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on UC Victory Parkway Campus. The course fee is $69, plus a $5 materials fee payable to the instructor for materials used in class. Bring your mother or daughter to class for a special discounted rate of $99 for two people.
