Inaugural UC Day of Giving a Success

CINCINNATI – April 30, 2018 – The first University of Cincinnati Day of Giving on April 10, 2018, was as a 24-hour celebration of community and philanthropy. Through a large outreach effort, which included 148 UC Day of Giving Ambassadors, more than 1,700 gifts were made to raise $240,599 in support of programs and initiatives at UC and UC Health.

“The passion behind our first UC Day of Giving was remarkable,” said UC Foundation President Peter Landgren. “Our Bearcat family generously invested in the places that have made a huge impact in their own lives. Bearcats from all over used their networks to elevate our alma mater.”

There were many success stories from the day, including:

  • The UC Clermont Bearcats Food Pantry had the fourth highest number of donors, with gifts totaling $2,640. The pantry opened in April with a single $250 donation.
  • The College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) Alumni Endowed Scholarship received $9,925, fulfilling its fundraising goals two years in advance. The CEAS Alumni Board awards $10,000 annually. Five rising seniors received the scholarship for the 2017-18 school year.
  • A Nursing Diversity Scholarship Fund was created by staff this month and raised $3,210. The Fund supports underrepresented, first generation and/or economically disadvantaged students,

Thanks to donor commitments for UC Day of Giving, several challenges and matches were offered to help inspire others to take action. Most matches and challenges were met, demonstrating the impact that we can make when we act together.
