Light Boxes, Pedestals and Shadow Boxes in UC Clermont Exhibit

In a joint show, Matthew Shelton and Danielle Tipler feature their art in the form of light boxes (Shelton), pedestals and shadow boxes with mixed-media metal forms (Tipler).

“I spent years studying classical art, and pursuing painting and drawing in all its forms.  At the same time, I was drawn to forms of visual entertainment that are all but irresistible to the human eye: fireworks, optical illusions, black light posters, and Christmas light displays.  The patterns themselves aim to place the viewer in a trance-like state, where they might find a moment of peace, and a renewed sense of connection with themselves and their surroundings,” said Shelton of his work.

The art gallery is sponsored by Park National Bank and located in the Snyder Building on the UC Clermont College campus in Batavia.

Tipler explains that the sculptures are a soundtrack to her life, but without the sound.  “I have incorporated lyrical text to draw viewers in, make a statement, and identify with my story through song.  Within my artwork, I’ve chosen songs that are deeply personal and somewhat controversial.  Inspired by the changes in my life, I have experimented with how I can physically change metal.  I have altered metal through many stages to finally construct a graphic image,” said Tipler.
