A workshop showcasing some of UC's best practices in addressing the needs of graduate students will be presented from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15. The event is open to UC faculty and administrators.
Eight UC faculty members will be featured in oral presentations at 2-3 p.m. and at 3:30-4:30 p.m. The workshop will take place on the second floor of the Faculty Club.
Titled "Enhancing the Doctoral Experience: Perspectives from Across Campus," the showcase was organized by the Committee on Enhancing Doctoral Education, which is co-chaired by Kathryn Gutzwiller and Bruce Ault. It is sponsored by Howard Jackson, vice president for Research and university dean for Advanced Studies.
In addition to the eight presentations, the afternoon session will feature posters on other best practices on campus, from 3 to 3:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served at the same time.
Faculty presenters will be: Susan Bacon (A&S), John Alexander (A&S), Carla Purdy (Engineering), Bruce McClung (CCM), Francis Cullen (Education), Anna Gudmundsdottir (A&S), Michael Lehman (Medicine) and Bob Conyne (Education). Topics will range from peer-led teacher assistant training in chemistry to peer-based mentoring.
