Longtime University of Cincinnati supporters Myron (Mike) Ullman III and Robert Wehling will be honored by the College of Business Administration (CBA) at its 17th annual Cincinnati Business Achievement Awards Banquet, set for Tuesday, March 12 at the Millennium Hotel in downtown Cincinnati. The evening begins with a reception at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and the program at 7 p.m.
The keynote speaker for the program will be Robert Novak, one of the most familiar faces on CNN and a columnist with the Chicago Sun-Times.
Ullman will receive the Carl H. Lindner Medal for Outstanding Business Achievement. The award goes to a CBA graduate who best demonstrates achievement in the field of business, as represented by the recipient's entrepreneurial spirit, commitment to business and community and achievement of the highest level of success within one's profession.
Ullman has held a number of senior leadership positions in international business, government and academia during his career, most recently as director general and group managing director of Paris-based LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vitton, the world's leading luxury goods group. Stepping down from those positions in September 2001 for health reasons, Ullman remains a member of the board of directors of LVMH. He also serves as chairman of the board of DeBeers LV, a new joint venture between DeBeers and LVMH, and is a director of DFS Group Limited and Miami Cruiseline Services.
Among other highlights in his career, he served as chairman and chief executive officer of R.H. Macy & Co. where he led the company out of bankruptcy and through a complex, successful merger with Federated Department Stores. He also served UC as vice president of business affairs for the university, and was a White House Fellow appointed by President Ronald Reagan. Ullman is a graduate of UC's industrial management program and was the 1993 recipient of the UC Alumni Association's William Howard Taft medal for notable achievement.
Wehling will receive the CBA Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award for his contributions to CBA, UC and the Cincinnati community. He spent 40 years with the Procter & Gamble Co., retiring last August from the position of global marketing and government relations officer. He began his P&G career as a brand assistant, steadily working his way through the ranks until joining the senior management team in 1994 as senior vice president in charge of worldwide advertising, market research and public affairs.
Just as impressive has been his involvement with outside organizations, especially those dedicated to the health and improved education of America's youth. Among many other involvements, he has served as co-chair of the Ohio Education Improvement Coalition, director of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, president of the Greater Cincinnati March of Dimes, chairman of both the Advertising Council Board and the Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce, and as a member of the United Way Board of Trustees and Executive Committee, the National Policy Council and Governor Taft's Commission for Student Success.
At UC, he is the founding member of the Dean's Community Advisory Council in the College of Education. In 1998, UC honored Wehling with a Doctor of Human Letters Honorary Degree.
Individual tickets and table sponsorships are available for the banquet through CBA's Office of External Relations. For reservations or information, call Betsy Reid at (513) 556-3381 or e-mail betsy.reid@uc.edu.
