Invitations are currently being sent for the University of Cincinnati's Cincinnatus Scholarship Competition, which awards $11 million in scholarship money for UC freshmen beginning fall 2002. Since 1997, the competition has drawn the nation's brightest students to the UC campus to compete in essay and problem-solving activities. It's an opportunity to meet their high-achieving peers and compete for awards including a full scholarship at the University of Cincinnati. More than 1,400 students are expected to attend Cincinnatus VI.

Letters have been mailed to guidance counselors at high schools nationwide to encourage their top student achievers to apply for admission to UC. Students qualifying for Cincinnatus will be brought together Feb. 2, 2002 for the competition on campus. For students who can't make it to UC on that date, alternative competitions will be held on Feb. 8, 2002 and Feb. 25, 2002.

Everyone goes home a winner, awarded one of the following scholarships:

  • Cincinnatus - Eight full scholarship awards of an estimated $60,000 to cover full tuition, room and board, fees and books.
  • Founders - 100 Founders awards amounting to $20,000, or $5,000 per year.
  • University - 200 University awards of $10,000 that amount to $2,500 annually.
  • Century - Awards of $6,000 total, or $1,500 per year.
  • Out-of-state students also receive $3,000 annually added to their Founders, University or Century level awards.

To qualify for the competition, high school seniors with a minimum 3.00 unweighted high school grade point average must submit their completed admission application (including high school transcript and test scores) to the University of Cincinnati and must also meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • High school rank in top five percent of class
  • ACT composite of 26
  • SAT combined score of 1170
  • Students are strongly encouraged to get their application materials to UC by Dec. 15. All application materials must reach the admissions office by Jan. 15, 2002.
