Top Cincinnatus Winners

The students selected for Cincinnatus scholarships are not only considered because of their academic achievements, but also because of their dedication to service. The competition is named after a Roman farmer. Cincinnatus led his city to victory when Rome was invaded in 458 BC, then returned to his farm. Here are the stories of some of UC's top Cincinnatus Scholars:

Maribeth Mincey was awarded in 2002 and is on track to UC Medical School through the Connections Program.

Angela Wilson says the support of Cincinnatus stretched beyond the financial. She won a full scholarship from the first competition held in 1997.

Amit Zachariah of Illinois wants to become a doctor. He spent his high school years volunteering service at his community hospital and as part of his UC experience, he joined a student service organization.

Emily Behan Find out why a near disaster in outer space helped her find a direction for her future.

Daniel Kalb was one of the university's first Cincinnatus scholars. This UC grad says the community service aspect of the award will stay with him for a lifetime.

Kelsey McKelfresh makes discoveries on stage and behind the scenes in musical theater. Kelsey is now in her second year at UC, and was interviewed for this story in February, 2001.

Pianist Aaron Ziegel hits the right note with the competition. Aaron was interviewed for this story in November, 2000 and is now a second year major at the College-Conservatory of Music.

Carrie Foulk was awarded a University level scholarship in the competition. She was crowned UC's Homecoming queen in 2001 and graduated in 2002. Find out about the studies that took her around the world.
