UC student orientation leaders spent part of their Friday piecing together the 48 X 45 foot backdrop that will be raised at Convocation at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15. Thousands of new students and their families will attend the formal induction into the University of Cincinnati when Convocation is held at Shoemaker Center.
UC students Wynter Metoyer, Sara Jenkins, Zarinah Mitchell and Tilisha Lancaster spent their summer helping the new students get acquainted with the university through UC's orientation. They also led groups through a session reflecting on UC's Just Community initiative, a statement of the university's principles and values to recognize, respect and celebrate the diversity in the campus community. Freshmen divided into small groups and using magic markers, they worked together on portraying their vision of a Just Community by decorating canvas flags. The 170 flags were tied together Friday to create the freshman class banner that will be raised at the end of Convocation.
On Saturday at 2 p.m., students should report to the east end of Nippert Stadium for the new student gathering and processional. Parents can go to Shoemaker Center at that time.
After Convocation, families can proceed to Sigma Sigma Commons for the MainStreet cookout, which is free. The cookout begins at 4 p.m.
