Cincinnati - Laura Unger, the acting chairwoman of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, will be the keynote speaker when the University of Cincinnati College of Law hosts its 14th annual Corporate Law Symposium Friday, March 9. The symposium is sponsored by the UC Law Review and the Center for Corporate Law, and is made possible in part by a gift from Keating, Muething & Klekamp, P.L.L.

The title for this year's program is "Corporate Law Firms in the 21st Century." Unger will deliver her presentation, "The Impact of Technology on the Capital Raising Process," from 1-1:45 p.m. at the UC Faculty Club. The rest of the program will take place at the College of Law.

Unger has been an SEC commissioner since 1997. She is known for her expertise on technology issues in the securities industry and has been conducting an ongoing evaluation of whether the SEC's regulatory scheme enables market participants to optimize the benefits of technology, consistent with the SEC's obligation to protect investors. President George W. Bush named Unger the acting chairwoman of the Securities and Exchange Commission on February 12, following the resignation of chairman Arthur Levitt.

Unger is one of 14 speakers scheduled to take part in symposium sessions. The program also features speakers from several of Cincinnati's largest law firms, including Patrick Fischer (Keating, Muething & Klekamp), Charles Hertlein, Jr. (Dinsmore & Shohl), Stephen Nechemias (Taft, Stettinius & Hollister), and Patricia Smitson (Thompson Hine & Flory).
