UC Unveils Initiatives in Education

The University of Cincinnati will demonstrate how faculty and staff are reaching out to the community, the nation and the world during a back-to-school news briefing 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6. To demonstrate how technology is changing education, the briefing will be in Room 302 of Zimmer Auditorium, a distance-learning classroom.
A variety of experts from the university will report on trends in education from preschool to the professional level. Topics to be covered include:
UC's expanded partnerships with Greater Cincinnati K-12 schools
The first Ohio Report on the Quality of Teacher Education (to be released in September)
UC research which benefits K-12 schools, including programs to prevent school violence and teen suicide
The use of distance learning to expand educational opportunities for current students and working professionals, including those who need new certification to work in Head Start centers
The personal stories of a recent graduate who got a jump on her career by working in Germany as a UC co-op and an honors student preparing for a two-month tour of European businesses.

Anthony Perzigian: Senior Vice President and Provost for Baccalaureate and Graduate Education
Lawrence Johnson: Dean, College of Education and co-chair of the Ohio task force on teacher quality
Keith King, assistant professor of health promotion
Lisa Holstrom: Director of the Early Childhood distance-learning program
Gayle Elliott and Larry Gales: Coordinators of two international educational initiatives at UC
