There are new developments in the Office of the Provost, west campus, as the staff fills job openings in a reorganization process to address expanding academic responsibilities. The reorganization follows a review of the West Campus Provost Office Audit Report, which outlined office goals and priorities.

Karen Faaborg

Effective Jan. 2, Karen Faaborg began her new position as associate provost for faculty administrative services. Faaborg, a professor of arts administration in the College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), will have major responsibilities in the areas of American Association of University professors (AAUP) contract compliance, faculty recruitment, diversity and equal opportunity, management of the Retention, Promotion and Tenure (RPT) process and part-time faculty issues, as well as faculty leaves, grievances and other issues arising under the AAUP bargaining agreement. She will serve as liaison with the Office of General Counsel and Human Resources.

"Professor Faaborg brings a strong background and rich blend of talent, energy and acumen to this new position," says Anthony Perzigian, senior vice president and provost for baccalaureate and graduate education.

Faaborg adds the new position is an opportunity to focus on strengthening the relationship between faculty and administration. "I will be able to call on my legal training and my years of service as a member of the faculty and a college administrator to help maintain open communications, equitable procedures, and a sense of balance in dealing with the human side of contract issues. This is a high priority in the office of the provost."

Candidates are currently interviewing for a second new position created in the Provost Office - the vice provost for faculty development. That position will oversee curriculum design and delivery, pedagogy, the mentoring program for new faculty, orientation of new faculty, and faculty relations. Additionally, the vice provost for faculty development will lead the creation and development of a new teaching/learning center.
