If you've been confused about how to use all that complex exercise equipment over at Shoemaker Center or wondered
about the proper technique for certain pieces of equipment, there's a new program to help.
Recreational Sports has launched a new fitness program that can answer many of the questions that
have stopped you from starting a fitness regimen. Fitness supervisors are now available to give orientations for your first
workout session plus instruction on how to use the Nautilus, Paramount, cardio equipment available inside Shoemaker Center.
Their services are available free to UC faculty, staff and students, just like the facilities are available at no charge.
But a valid UC I.D. is required.
"It can be confusing and intimidating to come over here," said Annmarie Fay, assistant director, Recreational Sports. "We want to make this a more inviting place to go, and we want to help people work out efficiently and effectively."
The new supervisors are student workers who have gone through two-month training program, received in-house certification and passed an exam.
The supervisors are available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday. No appointments are necessary. The supervisors can also provide you with fitness information and handouts. They cannot, however, advise you on diet or supplements, injury rehabilitation or personal training.
