No recount was necessary here. Faculty in all colleges required to vote on UC's new General Education Program have voted in favor of the plan. The final college results were tabulated Tuesday, Nov. 14 when University College faculty approved the plan.
Last week, the faculty of the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences overwhelmingly approved the plan. "Based on the combination of mail and electronic ballots ... the General Education Program has been adopted/approved by Arts & Sciences by a vote of 107 to 16," announced Associate Dean Wayne Hall in an e-mail message to faculty Nov. 9.
The following colleges and schools previously approved the new General Education Program: Raymond Walters, Education, the College-Conservatory of Music; the College of Evening and Continuing Education; Engineering; Medicine; Design, Art, Architecture and Planning (DAAP); Nursing; Pharmacy; Allied Health Sciences; Business Administration; Applied Science (CAS); School of Social Work; and Clermont College.
"I know that I speak for every member of the General Education Coordinating Committee in thanking faculty throughout the university who contributed to the shaping of this General Education program and who supported it within their colleges," says Ann Twinam, committee chair. "The coordinating committee knows that this is just the first step in putting the program in place. We have made promises that we will keep, and we will be back asking for faculty input and cooperation as we move on to implementation and assessment."
