Karen L. Gould, dean of Arts and Letters at Old Dominion University, will become the next dean of UC's McMicken College of Arts and Sciences, UC senior vice president and provost for baccalaureate and graduate education Anthony Perzigian has announced.
Gould is expected to begin work at UC in September.
"I am confident that Dr. Gould brings the right blend of talents and experiences to lead the college's advancement and to challenge all of us to realize our fullest potential in educating students, in advancing our disciplines, and in serving the larger community," Perzigian said in announcing Gould's hiring to the A&S faculty.
Gould has been in her current position since 1996, leading a college of 13 departments and nearly 3,000 students. Her academic background is in French and women's studies, with a particular interest in French Canadian issues. She is currently the president of the International Council for Canadian Studies.
Prior to joining ODU in 1996, Gould was with Bowling Green State University for 11 years, serving stints during that time as the associate dean of academic affairs for BGSU's Graduate College and as director of BGSU's Women's Studies Program.
