Students moving into the University of Cincinnati residence halls last Friday were also dodging showers that put a bit of a damper on the move-in strategy, but brought some welcome relief from the heat. When the humidity moved in again, they could stop by the Helping Hands tables in front of the residence halls and take a break with a cool cup of water.

The Helping Hands program, under UC's Quality Service Initiative, was once again a success, bringing out 225 administrators, staff and faculty to assist students as they moved into the residence halls.

"Do I need an ID for the game tomorrow?" a student asked one of the Helping Hands, spotting him by his red T-shirt. UC President Joseph A. Steger, one of Schneider Hall's Helping Hands, cleared up her questions.

President Steger and Mitchel D. Livingston, Vice President for Student Affairs and Services, worked part of the afternoon shift at Schneider, assisting students like Angel Tisdale, who had loaded up her heavier items in the wheeled moving bins that students could borrow from the halls.

UC Provost Anthony J. Perzigian met the Schneider Hall students at the greeter's table, offering water, maps, Welcome Week information, and some freebies such as highlighters.

Fred Siff, UC Vice President for Information Technology, joined the crew at Schneider after he finished up his shift of assisting students moving into the new Turner Hall.
