Members of the University College Tribunal were hauling a load that was considerably heavier
than their books Nov. 27, as they gathered more than 100 coats to deliver to the Drop Inn Center in
Over-the-Rhine. The warm winter items were a welcome sight that followed a truckload of coats
delivered last week by students who collected coats from the Athletics Department.
The student athletes have an established relationship with the Drop Inn Center, according to
Carol Wissman, Athletics student service coordinator. Once a month, the athletes serve a meal at the
center. As the weather got colder, the demand grew for warm clothes in addition to the hot meals,
so the student athletes and University College students got into gear. For the past month, pickup
boxes for the coat drive were displayed in French Hall, the administration area of the Athletics
Department, and the locker rooms.
Eimee Donbar, one of the advisers for the tribunal, says the students spread the word about the
drive by making class announcements, sending e-mail to faculty and staff, and even collecting used
coats from friends and co-workers off campus. Jeff Milliken, a criminal justice major and vice
president of the tribunal, and Sharon Carter, a pre-education major and student senator, were among
the 15 tribunal members who led the effort at University College. The coat collection began in mid-
October.
The University College Tribunal is a student organization that represents the interests of all
students at University College, and the tribunal is recruiting new members for the organization that
was recently established. Students meet on the first and third Monday of each month. For information
about joining the University College Tribunal, contact advisers Eimee Donbar at 556-1606 or Sue
Bourke at 556-1353.
