A photo exhibit to celebrate the centennial of the UC men's basketball team takes a colorful twist. The exhibit, "A Hundred Years of Hoops: Coloring the History of Bearcat Basketball" is on display in the UC Archives and Rare Books Department on the eighth floor of Blegen Library.
The coloring comes from the vision of Jacob Hand, a UC photojournalism major and student worker in Archives and Rare Books. With the help of UC Photographic Services and the UC Digital Press, Hand added a splash of color to the black and white images. For example, one image portrays a "blue in the face" Coach Bob Huggins shouting out instructions from the bench.
Former Bearcat Coach Gale Catlett had a fashion style like no other, and a colorized image highlights his '70s style plaid suit. The display also includes images of Bearcat notables such as Jack Twyman, Oscar Robertson, Nick Van Exel (seen leaping high to take a shot in this photo) and Kenyon Martin.
The exhibit runs through Sept. 15. The display is free and open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is also showcased on the Archives and Rare Books web site.
