Each fall, UC welcomes approximately 600 new international students to campus. Many of these students need some new friends to help them get acquainted with the United States as well as some household items to set up their apartments.
The International Student Services Office (ISSO) is seeking volunteers to help with both of these needs:
International Friendship Program
Faculty, staff, students and other members of the community are invited to serve in the International Friendship Program. This ISSO-sponsored program matches American volunteers with incoming international students to provide guidance on making the transition to a new culture. UC volunteers are expected to invite their new international acquaintance to social and family activities, share information about American politics, culture, economics, environment and more. For more information or to sign up, send an e-mail to international.students@uc.edu.
Garage Give-Away
Household furniture and items are needed to help international students furnish their Cincinnati homes. The Garage Give-Away will take place on Saturday, Sept. 21. Gently used furniture and other household items are needed, including beds (or just mattresses), desks, sofas, tables, chairs, TVs, microwaves, lamps, linens, dishes, other table service items and kitchen items. Please e-mail John Wentz at the University Christian Church to make drop-off arrangements.
More information about ISSO can be found on line at www.isso.uc.edu or call (513) 556-4278.
