Author and consultant Jay Rifenbary will speak at the University of Cincinnati as part of Just Community Week starting Nov. 12. The UC Just Community initiative, nationally recognized as a model program for civic education, sponsors events that promote discussion and debate as the initiative works to build a more caring and just community on campus. The Jay Rifenbary lecture is free and open to the public.
Here is the schedule of events for Just Community Week:
Tuesday, Nov. 12
12:30-2:30 p.m., African American Cultural and Research Center
Just Community Forum: A discussion of Cornel West's book, Race Matters. Patrice Dickerson, UC assistant professor of African American Studies, will be the facilitator for the discussion of West's book as part of a brown bag lunch session that is open to the UC community.
Thursday, Nov. 14
Noon-1 p.m., Room 7051, Medical Sciences Building (Medical Center Campus)
Jay Rifenbary lecture. Rifenbary, a consultant, motivational speaker and internationally best-selling author of No Excuse! Key Principles for Balancing Life and Achieving Success, is president of the Rifenbary Training & Development Center, which holds on-site development seminars and workshops. Rifenbary's lecture will address stress management as it relates to personal responsibility. The event is free and open to the public.
1:30-2:30 p.m., UC Bookstore
Jay Rifenbary will be available to sign his book, No Excuse! An Action Plan for Success. Location: General Book Department. Copies of the book will be available for sale at the bookstore for $17.95. The event is open to public.
3 p.m., Room 525, Old Chemistry Building
Jay Rifenbary lecture. This lecture is free and open to the public.
Sunday, Nov. 17
4 p.m., Event Pavilion
The African American Cultural and Research Center Choir presents the concert program,
"Njozi - It's Going to be a Brighter Day." The event is open to the public. Tickets are $5 advance, $7 at the door, and can be purchased at the African American Cultural and Research Center. Information: (513) 556-1177.
