A FACELIFT FOR THE DORMS Students moving into Siddall Hall will enjoy renovations worth $750,000. The changes include new lighting, beds, desks, wardrobes and dressers. Every dorm also has a big screen TV and new microwaves on every floor. Residence life area coordinator Dawn Wilson says the Daniels Hall lobby is also being renovated. That project includes new lighting, furniture, wall coverings and new carpet.

CAMPUS DEBIT CARD Beginning this fall, UC students can turn their student IDs into a debit card to pay for meal plans, laundry and vending machines in the residence halls and items at the bookstores. The debit card will be called the Bearcat Campus Card, and it works in a similar fashion to bank debit cards. Students fill out a registration and deposit money at bookstore locations. The convenience means students won't have to carry so much cash or scramble to find change for laundry and snack machines.

CAMPUS DRIVE-IN Friday Night Live, UC's initiative to provide free entertainment in an alcohol-free setting on campus, celebrates its first anniversary with a "drive-in" movie. Students will not need their cars when they "pull in" at Sigma Sigma Commons Friday, Sept. 22, 8-11 p.m., however, they'll find the drive-in speaker setup, the big screen and free snacks and soft drinks. The movie, "Any Given Sunday," starring Al Pacino, will be the main feature.

SENIORS GET SET TO START YEAR OF JOB-HUNTING The first day of classes at UC will also be the first day of job hunting for seniors graduating in spring 2001. UC's Career Development Center will start the seniors off with its "Senior Year Reception" under a big-top tent on McMicken Commons from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20. In addition to getting linked up with corporate recruiters, students will enjoy a variety of games. Activities include a money booth (whirlwind style), paper airplane contests, and remote-controlled car races. More information is at the Career Development web site.
