UC Student Awarded Boren Scholarship
McMicken College of Arts and Sciences International Affairs student Jacob Fessler recently received the Boren Scholarship to study Portuguese in Mozambique for fall semester 2014.
Fessler plans to enroll in the African Languages Initiative at the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane in Maputo, Mozambique.
Boren scholarships support students interested in learning languages and studying in locations that are of interest to the United States. The scholarships are funded by the National Security Education Program, which focuses on geographic areas, languages, and fields of study deemed critical to the U.S. national security.
Fessler, a junior student, transferred to UC in 2013 to study international affairs. He is currently studying abroad in Colombia.
