The UC One Stop web site has added yet another feature online so that students aren't waiting in line. Students who receive financial aid expense money, student loan refunds or other disbursements (such as refunds of overpayments) can now have that money directly deposited to their account, instead of waiting for the check to arrive in the mail. Registration is currently underway for the direct deposit service.
Cynthia Morehouse, UC director of Student Accounts and direct deposit project leader, estimates that every year, the university prints and mails about 75,000 of these refund checks to students. The direct deposit option will get that money in their accounts much faster, plus it will save students the inconvenience of depositing the paper checks at the bank. Students can choose this option by clicking on the One Stop web site. From there, click on direct deposit my refunds, located on the left navigation bar under "My Bill."
The One Stop web site is one example of how the university is focusing on services for and about students, providing those services 24-hours a day, anywhere from a computer, expanding the 8-to-5 workday. With a click on their keyboard, students can clear up questions they may have about their classes, their bill, financial aid and more.
The web site marks its first year in operation this August, and the positive feedback has been remarkable, says site manager and UC director of Enrollment Services James Williams. The site, which has logged 981,712 visitors as of June, will continuously be improved. "Every quarter, students will see new online services and enhancements to existing ones--the possibilities are very exciting and nearly endless," says Williams.
