Beginning this month, the University of Cincinnati has changed its special Ohio license plate design from the old "horseshoe" UC logo to the athletic C-Paw logo.
According to Greg Vehr, UC vice president for Governmental Relations and University Communications and chair of the university Communication Cabinet, the cabinet suggested changing to the C-Paw as an outgrowth of the university's new branding initiative. "The cabinet recommended the C-Paw logo so that Bearcat fans could more readily display their pride while at the same time providing additional dollars to the general scholarship fund," Vehr said.
According to Mark Jorgensen, associate vice president of marketing for the UC Foundation, of the $35 special plate fee in the state of Ohio, $25 comes back to UC in general scholarship funding. That portion of the state fee is also tax deductible, he said. Last year, UC sold 1,078 plates, compared to 12,647 for Ohio State University, 1,397 for Miami University and 1,194 for Ohio University, he said.
To order new or replacement plates, visit your local motor vehicle registrar. Or go online now to the UC Alumni Association web site at www.alumni.uc.edu and follow the link to Ohio's online plate renewal service.
