Robert Hass
A former U.S. poet laureate and a well-known critic and translator, Hass is known for his musical, descriptive and meditative poetry. His books of poems include Praise, Human Wishes and Sun Under Wood. His book of essays, Twentieth Century Pleasures, received the National Book Critics Circle Award for Criticism.

Richard Russo
Winner of this year's Pulitizer Prize for fiction, this novelist is noted for his stories about life in America's declining small towns. His book, Nobody's Fool, was adapted as a 1994 screenplay starring Paul Newman. His other novels include The Risk Pool, Straight Man and Empire Falls.

Erin McGraw
A former faculty member at the University of Cincinnati, McGraw is the author of the novel, The Baby Tree, which is "due" this spring from Story Line Press. She has published two collections of short stories: Bodies at Sea and Lies of the Saints, selected by The New York Times as a Notable Book for 1996.

Henry Taylor
Pulitzer Prize winner. Mr. Taylor is professor of literature and co-director of the MFA Program in Creative Writing at the American University in Washington DC.
