Homecoming 2000 "Rivalry of the Century"
The UC-Miami football rivalry is the oldest in Ohio, starting back in 1888 with a game in Oxford that ended in a scoreless tie. Miami won the next year 34-0 and continued to dominate until 1894 when UC finally claimed victory in a 6-0 squeaker. Nationwide, only ten other teams have had more enduring rivalries.
Since those first games, the tradition has been enriched by the addition of the Victory Bell. The bell is the trophy claimed by the school which wins the annual matchup. UC has the bell for now after a 52-42 victory in last year's game.
Miami helped UC to create a little football history of its own two years ago. On October 24, 1998, the UC Bearcats became only the 30th program in NCAA history to play 1,000 intercollegiate games.
