The University of Cincinnati has claimed the first trophy in the annual showdown with crosstown rival Xavier University. In fact, UC claimed the first two prizes in today's Crosstown Shout-Out.

The Shout-Out has a shorter history than the great basketball rivalry (Dec. 14th this year at Shoemaker). It's only been around for four years. However, it requires just as much preparation and performance under pressure. The competition pits the two schools in a test of speech-making skills.

Three students from Xavier and three from UC faced off this afternoon in a debate over the future of Affirmative Action. When the dust cleared, UC came out on top twice.

Ashlee Bourjaily (seen on the left), a communication major and a graduate of Newark High School in Newark, Ohio claimed first place which is worth $500. Rose Dizon, a McAuley High School graduate and a pre-communication major who lives in White Oak, earned the second prize of $200.

Xavier's team didn't go home empty-handed. David Tell, a public relations major from East Cleveland, won the third prize of $100. The winners will be recognized during the Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout basketball game. UC also maintains possession of the traveling trophy, winning the Shout-Out for the second year in a row.

The contest is sponsored by Lou Ginocchio, branch manager for A.G. Edwards & Sons and a 1970 XU graduate.
