The Old Service building started coming down this month to make way for the Student Recreation Center as part of the MainStreet project. The UC community will be taking some new pedestrian routes over the spring quarter, as the southeast corner of McMicken is closed off to pedestrian traffic. MainStreet construction management explains the "sidewalk closed" sign allows workers to start on a pump room for a fountain that's going to be installed in the front of University Pavilion.
A new construction zone will also open by gate seven of Nippert Stadium, to install an emergency generator to serve Tangeman University Center, University Pavilion and McMicken Hall. Pedestrians walking from the CCM quadrant of campus toward Shoemaker and Lawrence will be routed to the east concourse (plaza level) of Nippert Stadium. Signs will help direct the pedestrians.
Also, look for periodic closings of the walkway around the north side of CCM, as bridgework continues from CCM to the University Pavilion.
A map outlining construction areas for the spring quarter can be found on the University Architect website.
