The following statement was released today University of Cincinnati President Joseph A. Steger to the University community today following President Bush's call for a national day of mourning for victims of Tuesday's attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

The University of Cincinnati will participate in the National Day of Prayer
and Remembrance called by President George W. Bush in memory of those who
lost their lives in Tuesday's terrorist attacks.
President Bush, in his proclamation, said: "I ask that the people of the
United States and places of worship mark this National Day of Prayer and
Remembrance with noontime memorial services, the ringing of bells at that
hour, and evening candlelight remembrance vigils. I encourage employers to
permit their workers time off during the lunch hour to attend the noontime
services to pray for our land. I invite the people of the world who share
our grief to join us in these solemn observances."
Where possible, please allow people in your units to participate as they see
fit during the lunch period.
