"Into the Streets" Registration Information

Registration is underway for UC students to volunteer their time to benefit the
community. The 10th annual "Into the Streets" Saturday, Oct. 21 is expected to
attract hundreds of UC students to work in conjunction with several local community
The national community service initiative is sponsored locally by UC's
Community Service Programs office. Students will be working with Tender Mercies,
Over-the-Rhine Housing Network, People Working Cooperatively, the Cincinnati
Park Board, and City Gospel Mission. Projects range from painting to cleanup. For
example, in Burnet Woods, students will be doing maintenance work on the trails.
"As you know, Burnet Woods brings out the Clifton community and the campus
community and as our office gets affected by budget issues, we need to rely more on
the community," said Cindy Nugent, volunteer coordinator for the Cincinnati Parks
Board. "Their efforts are vital to keep the park looking good."
Since the program was launched, "Into the Streets" has served thousands of
people in communities around the Cincinnati area.
