The 2002 Winter Olympics got an Olympic-sized boost from three representatives of the University of Cincinnati and more than 100 others in the Greater Cincinnati area this week. UC was represented by staff, faculty and alumni in the 2002 torch run through the streets of Cincinnnati Monday, Dec. 17th. The first was Barbara Watts, associate dean in the College of Law, and a long-time supporter of the Olympic spirit. Watts braved the rain and chill along with several supporters as she jogged along Clifton Avenue.

The other torch-bearers were Dr. Susan Schneider, assistant professor of clinical opthalmology and former Bearcat basketball standout Kenyon Martin who completed the torch run at Paul Brown Stadium in downtown Cincinnati and lit the cermonial Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic cauldron.
Martin now plays in the National Basketball Association for the New Jersey Nets. The 6 foot 9-inch center played for the Bearcats from 1996 to 2000. He was the Consensus College Basketball Player of the Year for the 1999-2000 season.
