Calhoun's appointment was announced by UC Vice President and Chief Information Officer Fred Siff. "This represents an evolutionary restructuring of UCit, as well as recognition of Michael's effectiveness and growth in his current position of Director, Core Application Services. This new organization represents a merger of the organizations with primary responsibility for the university's essential systems," Siff said. "This restructuring will enhance UCit's ability to provide efficient and effective service to the university body."
In his new capacity Calhoun will be responsible for both applications systems and computer systems operations. He will be assisted by Mike Alexander, who will provide senior management and leadership within the new unit in his continuing role of Director, Systems Operations.
