University Hall, the headquarters for hundreds of UC administrators and staff members, celebrated Oct. 31 with a real "U-Hall-oween" costume contest and party, complete with tricks and treats.
You'd be surprised who showed up - a flag-making Betsy Ross (Zondra Hall of purchasing and materiel management), a pirate filled ship, a three-headed monster, an HMO nightmare (aka Diane Henderson of university conferencing), and a hippie (Betty Young of benefits). There were witches and a Dorothy, complete with a yellow brick road.
Prizes were announced at a 3:30 p.m. party, selected from 60 costume entries:

- Best Overall: Jolly Roger ship, above right, Tony Balzano, Don Connley, Everett Wolverton and Darlene Parillo, Facilities Management.
- Most Original: The Shower Curtain Girl, Tracy Roberto.
- Scariest: The Three-Headed Woman, Shirley Davidson, Facilities Management (see below).
- Funniest: Dorothy and the Wicked Witch, Merianne Cardas, left, and Nancy Hanseman, respectively, both of Human Resources Development.
The treats were the prizes: the best overall winners a one month free parking pass, compliments of Parking Services, and three Kingsgate lunch coupons. The most original, scariest and funniest costume wearers won Bookstore Bundles containing a T-shirt, holiday ornament, chocolates and a Bearcat paw decal.
Party door prizes were also awarded, including an overnight stay with dinner at Kingsgate, a dinner for two at Kingsgate, a lunch for two at Kingsgate (all compliments of Kingsgate Conference Center) and two Bookstore Bundles.
The costume contest was organized by Administrative Services.
