School administrators will explore how to find a connection between learning and leadership that leaves no child behind when the University of Cincinnati College of Education hosts a national conference. The University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) conference is set for Nov. 2-4 at the Omni Netherland Plaza Hotel downtown.

The UCEA is a national organization devoted to excellence in the preparation of educational administrators. Conference sessions are geared towards recognizing that all educators are instrumental in the success of all children. University professors, graduate students in educational administration and frontline school leaders will come together to address the educational challenges that face the nation.

UC Educational Administration Professor Nancy Evers says approximately 500 people are expected for the conference, themed "Leadership and Learning for the Success of All Children." "The keyword here is 'all' children," continues Evers, who adds the college's new Urban Educational Leadership program will be highlighted. The UC program, which first accepted students in fall 2000, is one of a handful of programs around the country to prepare educational leaders specifically for urban settings, ranging from schools to community centers to juvenile justice and adult prison programs.

Featured conference speakers include Patricia Hill Collins, chair and Charles Phelps Taft Professor of Sociology, department of African American Studies at the University of Cincinnati; Paul T. Hill, director of the Center on Reinventing Public Education, University of Washington; and Eugene Garcia, dean of the Graduate School of Education, University of California at Berkley.

Registration is still open and costs $35 for graduate students, $70 for faculty members of UCEA, and $85 for nonmembers and practicing administrators. Registration is available on site at the convention beginning Friday, Nov. 2, 7 a.m.-6 p.m. in the Hall of Nations of the Omni Netherland.
