UC's Recreational Sports wants to get you movin' - not the kind where you pack boxes, but the kind where you work out. It's launching a new program to provide an extra nudge to get you off your seat.
"Moving on MainStreet" is an incentive program to persuade students, faculty and staff to make a habit of exercising. If you already work out, it's designed to get you to try something new in the fitness center.
You can even earn a reward, above and beyond physical and energy benefits, by taking part. Participants are asked to work out at least three times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes each session. At the end of 18 half-hour sessions in six weeks, you'll earn a free water bottle or towel. Then, at the end of 12 weeks and 36 workouts, Rec Sports will award you a "Moving on MainStreet" T-shirt.
If you feel a bit intimidated by the array of equipment available at UC's fitness facilities, Rec Sports has fitness supervisors available to show you how to do things. There also is the recent addition of $25,000 in new free-weight equipment to expand your weight training options.
"The whole point of this program is to get students, faculty and staff to try something new or to begin a completely new workout and make a habit or routine out of it to lead to a better and healthier lifestyle," said Jill Dabbelt, graduate assistant working at the Rec Center.
All faculty, staff and students are invited to join in the program any time after Monday, March 25. For information, contact the Shoemaker desk at (513) 556-0604 or Dabbelt by e-mail at jdabbelt@hotmail.com. Entrance to fitness facilities requires a valid UC ID, plus for students, a copy of the current quarter's schedule.
