Dr. Burlew will discuss her successes and lessons learned in academia, tips for promotion and career advancement, and the value of collaboration and mentorship. In addition, Dr. Burlew will discuss her unique experiences and perspectives as an African American woman in academia.

This event is open to all faculty, trainees, and students and will provide valuable opportunities for interactive dialogue and meeting new people.

Dr. Burlew is a Professor in the Psychology Department at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Burlew’s work is nationally recognized and aimed at developing, testing and culturally tailoring interventions to reduce substance use and HIV risk in at risk populations. Throughout her career, Dr. Burlew has been strongly committed to teaching and mentoring, particularly underrepresented students. She is the recipient of the Edith C. Alexander Distinguished Teaching Award, Faculty Achievement Award, University Excellence in Mentoring Award, the Kenneth and Mamie Clark Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Professional Development of Ethnic and Minority Graduate Students, and is a YWCA Career Woman of Achievement.
