WelcomeUC Ingot

Students {float: right; margin-left: 0.5em}Welcome to the home of the UC Problem-Based Learning Initiative (PBLI).

Problem-based learning is an active learning pedagogy based on current learning theories including constructivism, social constructivism and situated cognition. In PBL classrooms, learning occurs as group members work together to solve complex problems.

PBL requires extensive skills and time to design problems which encompass the content of a course, to enhance student efforts in locating and evaluating information independently, to collaborate with other content experts, to facilitate small group processes, and to implement grading procedures assessing mastery of content and process domains. The time invested by faculty is balanced by the fact that students become better "thinkers and doers" and that students and faculty alike experience the process as empowering and energizing.

Our primary goal for this site is to provide a PBL toolkit that will enable students and faculty to access important resources at times most convenient for them. The UC Problem-Based Learning Steering Committee invites your feedback and suggestions.
