Ladders of Involvement
The UC PBL Steering Committee
For more than five years, a committed group of diverse faculty and administrators have committed themselves to introducing PBL to the various UC colleges and campuses and to the institutionalization of this pedagogical strategy within our institution. Members of the team have presented at numerous national and international conferences, have conducted workshops for faculty, and have coordinated PBL efforts and training campus-wide.
The UC Problem-Based Learning Steering Committee seeks to:
- be an active and integral component of the University’s efforts to become an
institution that recognizes the importance of both scholarly teaching and the scholarship of teaching and learning;
- support faculty in their efforts to become scholarly teachers and in their efforts to conduct diverse methods of pedagogical research;
- provide resources which support the use of Problem-Based Learning and other learner-centered, inquiry-based/guided pedagogies which result in greater student engagement, learning and retention;
- serve as advocates for the integration of student-centered learning pedagogies throughout the University;
- provide models for successful implementation of Problem-Based Learning across departments, disciplines and colleges; and,
- empower and support faculty by providing diverse opportunities to obtain the knowledge and skills needed to successfully use PBL and related learner-centered pedagogical strategies to enhance student learning.
