RE: Leadership Update
DATE: August 22, 2012
Let me join the Board of Trustees in conveying my admiration and appreciation to Gregory Williams for his countless contributions to the University of Cincinnati. He has taught us to dream big, to think strategically and to work collaboratively, and the University is better because of his leadership. I wish him the very best.
I write to inform you that in my capacity as Interim President, I have made two key appointments effective August 23, 2012. Larry Johnson, PhD, Dean of the College of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services, will serve as Interim Provost; and Ryan Hays, PhD, Vice Provost for Faculty Development and Deputy to the Provost, will serve as Interim Executive Vice President, as Karen Faaborg has stepped down from this role. First, let me thank Karen for her dedication and service to the Office of the President. I also want to extend my thanks and support to Larry and Ryan for answering the call of service during this time of transition.
Let me reassure you and the broader community that university business will proceed at the same high level we all have come to expect. Our senior leadership team is particularly strong and experienced, and we will work with each of you to move this institution forward in a positive, profound way. Together as a university, we have built an amazing amount of momentum with UC2019 and the Academic Master Plan, and we owe it to ourselves to see these ideas and initiatives through to success.
On Friday, we will welcome a new cohort of students and parents into the Bearcat family. On Monday, we will launch into a new academic year and calendar with a keen sense of purpose and pride. In this season of transition, know that I am deeply committed to partnering with you to build an even better UC.
