UC President, 1984-2003
Dr. Joseph A. Steger was appointed President of the University of Cincinnati in July 1984. He also serves as Vice Chairman of TechSolve (formerly the Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Sciences), Chairman of the Board of Drake Center, Chair of the Ohio Supercomputer Center Governing Board, member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Board of Directors, member of the Ohio Aerospace Institute Board of Trustees, and a member of the National Commission on Cooperative Education. Dr. Steger also serves on the Milacron, Provident Financial, and Crucible Materials Boards.
Dr. Steger has held management positions in both industrial and academic organizations, such as Colt Industries, Prudential, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
He has consulted worldwide with both government and private organizations including the People's Republic of China, New York City Police and Tax Departments, ARAMCO, General Electric, National Science Foundation, and Texaco. He has also served on various state and federal advisory boards and commissions.
He has authored over 70 articles and edited a book on statistics. His current research and consulting activities include management of technology transfer, identification of management talent, and the role of higher education in economic development.
Dr. Steger has been elected a Fellow in both the American Psychological Association and the American Psychological Society.
His PhD and MS degrees are from Kansas State University in Psychophysics and Statistics, and his BA is from Gettysburg College in Experimental Psychology.
