Each year Sigma Sigma gives the Mr. Bearcat Award to an
outstanding graduating male who shows campus and community
involvement, leadership, and "Bearcat Spirit." This year that
award went to Shaun Simpson, soon to graduate with a 3.2 GPA and
a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
So what has Shaun done to be eligible for this prestigious
award? In a nutshell, he has gone above and beyond the call of
duty as a Bearcat. Since beginning his freshman year five years
ago, Shaun has been a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, the
Interfraternity Council, Student Alumni Council, Leadership
Institute, 1997 Homecoming Committee and the UC Master Plan
Committee. He has served as a Student Orientation Leader, UC
Senior Class Vice president, a UC Public Relations Officer and is
the winner of several honors and awards over the years. Shaun is
also one of the creators of the Crosstown Help-Out, an event
that brings UC and XU students together to serve the Cincinnati
community.
Aside from these resume builders, Shaun has shown a tremendous
amount of UC pride and love for UC basketball. This past
basketball season, Shaun organized a bus trip to Chicago to see
the Bearcats play DePaul. Shaun is also one of the founders of
Rallycats, a student organization dedicated to school spirit.
Finally the time has come for the members of the class of 2000
to graduate and go separate ways. Shaun will soon be moving to
Chicago to start a new job with a computer solutions company. He
said that "I'm happy to get a job and ready to move on, but it's
going to be difficult to leave Cincinnati behind." He says of
his experience here, "it's been definitely positive." Clearly,
Shaun will miss UC, and UC will miss Mr. Bearcat.
