TUC in the fall

This is the last week that the Tangeman University Center will be open and serving the UC community in its current form. The building is closing for major renovations which will take at least two years.

UC's Public Relations staff has spent the last several months documenting the history of TUC and featuring the many people who worked there. This week, we introduce you to Larry Elsasser, the person's who officially in charge of TUC

Larry Elsasser has been working in TUC for 30 years now. He became the director in 1976 and has overseen thousands of activities. "I think there's something every day… that's exciting about our building. No day is alike."

Elsasser says that makes his job one of the most enjoyable on campus, but also one that's crucial to the campus community. "We understand our role of service to the university community - students, faculty, staff, alumni. And I think we enjoy doing that,"

One of the things Elsasser enjoys most about TUC is "all the staff work together in some capacity. The facility and services operate together as one unit."

So what is Elsasser's favorite TUC memory? "It's hard to pick a favorite, because I have enjoyed working with everyone in the planning and completion of their activities."

Summer Orientation definitely makes his list of favorites, however. "It's nice to work with new incoming students and their parents…. They're always excited about coming to the university," he notes.

Elsasser says he will miss "all the people associated with the building's programs and services over the years." However, he's looking forward to the impact the new TUC and MainStreet development will have on the entire UC community.

"I think it's going to be a very exciting improvement for campus. I think it's going to be great."
