
2003 Professional Achievement Recognition Awards
Each year the Division of Professional Practice
presents an award to an outstanding senior coop student in each major
in the University’s cooperative education program. This annual
award is one of the most significant recognitions the University offers
in the co-op colleges and is primarily based on the student’s
professional performance and development while on their practice assignments.
The outstanding seniors are presented with an achievement certificate,
recognizing their excellence, at a luncheon in their honor.
COLLEGE OF ARTS & SCIENCES
Robert S. Yee Computer Science
Robert Yee is a resident of Cincinnati, Ohio. He worked his six co-op
quarters at the Ford Motor Company. Robert developed web and database
applications and performed web administration in the Systems and
Controls Engineering Department. Robert developed several applications
which continue to be used by key users in the company. He hopes to
remain employed at Ford after graduation.
COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
Christopher L. Heilmann Accounting
Chris resides in West Chester, Ohio. He worked with Schumacher Dugan
Construction, Inc., all six quarters. Chris’ responsibilities
ranged from special projects to bank and job cost reconciliations
and financial statement preparations. The employer stated that “Chris
has been an outstanding employee over the past three years and has
shown a tremendous amount of growth in that time frame.” “He
possesses a positive attitude, is a team player and attentive to
detail.
Ryan A. Fromm Finance
Ryan resides in Bellbrook, Ohio, and completed six co-op quarters with
UBS PaineWebber on the Wulker Team. Ryan assisted with the prospecting
of new clients and learned much about the inner workings of the field
of financial planning. His employer stated, “Ryan consistently
exhibits a positive attitude and an excellent work ethic.” “He
is very organized, punctual, and much disciplined.” “Ryan
continues to be an excellent employee with much potential to do well
in this industry.”
Nathan Ulring Industrial Management
Nathan E. Ulring is a native of Dublin, Ohio, and graduated from Dublin
Scioto High School. He served two co-op terms with Fujitec and six
quarters with General Electric. Upon graduation, Nathan will actively
pursue positions in his career field.
Albert S. Tse Information Systems
Albert Tse of Fairfield, Ohio, worked at Procter and Gamble’s
Fabric and Home Care Information Technology Department. Al received
the Juvian Fanatic Service Excellence Award (working above the call
of duty for finding solutions to team members’ computer/network
problems.) He also won the Juvian Project “One Year” Recognition
Award. By his sixth quarter, Al was doing systems design programming,
process analysis and improvements, and coordinating and leading groups
for IT and safety exports for research on new molecules.
Elizabeth A. Kramer Marketing
A native of Cincinnati, Elizabeth worked at Convergy’s Marketing
Research Services. She worked with the University’s Honors Plus
program assisting with recruiting, market research and report preparation.
At Procter and Gamble she continued to develop strength in areas of
data analysis and interpersonal communication. Her employers commented
that Elizabeth exceeded their expectations by taking “full ownership
of a complex project.” After graduation, she begins work at P&G’s
Consumer and Market Knowledge Division.
George Z. Osborne Operations Management
George “Zach” Osborne is a native of Findlay, Ohio, and
graduated from Findlay High School. He is an Honors Plus student and
served two terms with Chiquita Brands and four quarters with General
Electric. Zach is one of 58 co-op students across the nation who won
the “General Electric’s Student Intern Co-op Contribution
Award” for 2002. In July, Zach will start in GE's Operations
Management Leadership Program.
COLLEGE OF DESIGN, ARCHITECTURE, ART & PLANNING
Aaron M. Crawford Master of Architecture
Aaron Crawford is a recipient of the Student Professional Achievement
Recognition Award for excellence. He worked for Gensler & Associates
in Chicago; Lehman-Smith & McLeish, Washington, DC; and Kohn
Peterson Fox Associates, London, England. After graduation, Aaron
plans to seek a small firm that focuses on high quality small scale
projects in complex environments. After architecture registration,
he plans to begin his own projects of event and exhibit and residential
design.
Nicholas John Mroczkowski Architecture
A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Nicholas completed his last co-op
assignment with Perkins Eastman Architects in New York City. His
position was in Studio Four designing laboratories with Carol Karasek.
Nicholas completed a total of eight co-op quarters with four different
and diverse employer organizations located throughout the USA. Nick
is preparing for the Architecture Registration Examination and contacting
former employers to find the most suitable position.
Allison Schapker Master of Architecture
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Allison completed two co-op quarters
with Metaphor in London, England. Her responsibility was to design
exhibition areas and a visitor experience center for a large gallery
in London. Allison completed four undergraduate co-op quarters in
Baltimore, MD, and Louisville, KY. She belongs to the first class
to graduate from the School of Architecture and Interior Design with
an accredited Master of Architecture degree. Allison’s next
steps include expanding her work experiences and preparing for the
Architecture Registration Examination.
Matthew D. Broerman Digital Design
Matt came to UC from his hometown of Fredericktown, OH. He completed
his last co-op quarters with Warner Brothers Online – New York
City. He also served with Brainstorm Design, Indianapolis, and HyperQuake
in Cincinnati.
Jamie Sammetinger Fashion Design
Jamie received excellent evaluations and a diverse exposure to the
fashion industry. She served her co-op quarters at Castle House in
Cincinnati where she gained retail experience; the Limited Too Corporate
Headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, with the fashion design team; and
she spent two quarters at The Gap New York Corporate offices in design.
Jamie was a valuable member of the tech design team while at Abercrombie
and Fitch. She received a job offer from them because of her talent
and outstanding work ethics.
Jeremy Roll Graphic Design
Jeremy Roll is a native of Lebanon, Ohio. Before entering UC as a member
of the US Army, he was deployed with the United Nations Peacekeeping
Force in Germany. Jeremy has successfully completed co-op assignments
with the Iams Corporation, Dayton, OH; Co-Active Marketing Group,
Cincinnati, OH, and his last assignment with respected designer,
Lori Siebert at her Cincinnati firm, Olika.
Kathleen E.R. Smith Industrial
Design
Kathleen, a native of Cincinnati, proved to be a “true asset” to
the Platform Team at Rubbermaid Consumer Products in Wooster, Ohio.
Valued at her co-op workplace for her positive attitude, eagerness,
professionalism, energy and dedication, Kate exemplified the qualities
needed to be successful in Industrial Design. Kate’s work experiences
have included Rubbermaid, Fisher-Price, Thomson Multimedia, Mattel
and Fisher-Price Brands. Kate will continue working for Rubbermaid
following graduation.
Pamela L. Musheff Interior Design
Pam is a native of Stow, Ohio, and completed her co-op requirements
with a travel quarter to Hawaii. Pam worked her first two quarters
of co-op with The Limited Inc., Columbus, Ohio, and three quarters
with F.H. Hunter & Associates – Atlanta.
Jennifer Daggy Product Development/Merchandising
Jennifer worked at Express World Brand in Dallas, TX, and for Express
in Cincinnati with their visual team and as an assistant manager.
She designed a sweater collection at Zimmer Enterprises in Dayton,
OH. Jennifer was the first co-op student from UC to work at JC Penny’s
Corporate Headquarters and worked on their CAD design team. She successfully
competed in a national design contest and was awarded a full-time
design position with Target at the Corporate Headquarters in Minneapolis.
Justin Evilsizor Urban Planning
A graduate of Lakota West High School, Justin worked at Project Mark
Decisions and Landrum and Brown his first three quarters. His supervisor
at Landrum and Brown stated “it took very little time for him
to learn the programs.” His final co-op terms were at the Hamilton
County Regional Planning Commission where he worked on the Community
Compass Master Plan. Justin participated in a Study Abroad program
in Amsterdam. He explored differences in planning theories in comparison
with the United States. Justin plans to obtain a planning position
and eventually attend graduate school.
COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING
Roger Rovekamp Aerospace
A graduate of Mason High School, Roger worked for Lockheed-Martin Space
Systems in Houston, Texas, for his first five terms and completed
his co-op career in Germany, as a participant in the International
Co-op Program working at Fairchild Dornier. He collected a diverse
portfolio of experiences including assignments in Guidance Navigation & Control
and Automation & Robotics for Lockheed Space Systems, as well
as, Aircraft Environmental Control Systems at Fairchild Dornier.
Lisa Marie Pinsent Chemical Engineering
Lisa, a Cincinnati, Ohio native, worked her entire 6 co-op quarters
at BP Chemicals. She had experience at 3 different plants and finished
her last two quarters at their R&D center where she worked on
the development of a kinetic model for a specific catalyst where
her subsequent experiments verified the accuracy of the mathematical
model. Lisa plans to pursue a permanent job for BP in a design engineering
group.
Steven C. Reese Civil & Environmental
Engineering
Steven Reese is a native of Cincinnati and attended Sycamore High School.
He completed two co-op terms with Malcolm Pirnie and four terms with
General Electric. His first two co-op terms with were with General
Electric Aircraft Engines in Cincinnati. As a member of the Internal
Co-op Program, he served two terms with GE Engine Services in Japan.
Steven has a Fellowship with US E.P.A. and will pursue a Master’s
Degree at the University of Cincinnati.
Reno Massarini Computer Engineering
Reno came to UC with a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University
of Dayton. He worked his entire co-op career at Campaq’s Alpha
Group. His experiences included microchip circuit design and simulation,
creation of software tools for Computer Aided Design (CAD) of microchip
circuits, and chip instruction set debugging. Some of Reno’s
CAD software tools were patented. Reno was the only UC co-op retained
when Compaq Alpha Group was purchased by Intel.
Brian A. Marks Electrical Engineering
Brian completed four out of six co-op assignments with Nova Engineering
where he successfully developed and implemented software for testing
VHF/UHF, digital and systems on a board designed for the military.
Nova Engineering hired Brian as a full-time employee. He started
this quarter while completing his senior design project and will
continue after graduation. Brian is a native of Zanesville, Ohio.
Kevin Kramer Engineering Mechanics
Kevin completed three co-ops with RA Jones assisting with the design
and implementation of packaging equipment. He served three co-ops
with Toyota Motor manufacturing rotating between headquarters in
Erlanger, KY, and the manufacturing facility in Georgetown, KY. IN
each assignment, he worked cases for the Plastics/Product Engineering.
Kevin is currently seeking employment in the automotive industry.
Jeffrey F. Kersting Industrial
Engineering
A native of Cincinnati, Jeff devoted all six of his co-op work terms
to R.A. Jones & Company in Northern Kentucky. Some of his accomplishments
include developing a floor plan, performing cost analysis, redesigning
layouts, creating a training database, reorganizing work centers, and
serving as a member of a Kaizen team. Jeff plans to attend law school
and focus on patent or intellectual property law.
Jeffrey T. Mergy Materials Science & Engineering
Jeffrey, a native of Hamilton, Ohio, completed his last two co-op quarters
at an Intel Fab Shop where he worked on process control and process
improvement of a new Pentium 4 chip. Jeffrey became an integral part
of the process improvement team. Jeffrey plans to seek a permanent
job in the semiconductor industry.
Erik T. Meutsch Mechanical Engineering
Erik completed his final co-op quarters with LogiK Research Engineering,
Inc., a local consulting firm where he was involved in development,
analysis and design. Projects included a 275-hypo gearbox, an AK
Steel werk rod, and a prototype diesel/gas turbine engine for the
US government. Upon graduation, Erik plans to enter the exclusive
Edison Engineering Program.
