![]() Kettil CedercreutzBorn in Finland, Kettil Cedercreutz started
his career in the United States as an Engineering Technology faculty
member at the University
of Cincinnati, OMI College of Applied Science (CAS). Since the fall
of 2001, Cedercreutz is the Associate Provost and Director of UC’s
cooperative education program offered by the Division of Professional
Practice. The curriculum which is one of the many first innovations
springing from UC, and one of the largest and most comprehensive in
the United States, generates up to 4,000 work terms annually for students
enrolled in 40 majors. During his tenure as Associate Provost and Director for the Division of Professional Practice Cedercreutz has focused the resources of the Division on strengthening the integration between industry and academia. The Division invests considerable resources in systems development, pedagogic development and faculty/industry integration. The objective is to enhance the University as a learning organization by strengthening the alignment between curricular offerings and industrial needs. Cedercreutz’ publications focus on Cooperative Education, Engineering Education, Accreditation, Assessment, Manufacturing Automation, Production Management, and Flexible Manufacturing Systems. Cedercreutz career in Finland is closely tied to the development of Finnish Polytechnics [four year institutions of higher education, having a strong industrial mission.] Having served as Project Engineer and Manager of After Sales Services at Neles Helsinki, Cedercreutz was in 1987 offered a position as Senior Lecturer, and Department Head at the Swedish Institute of Technology, Helsinki (SIT). Cedercreutz became a catalyst in focusing the school’s pedagogy on processes having computer control, moving the school to the fastest growing technological park in Scandinavia, and establishing a student exchange network between SIT and overseas schools located in both Central Europe and the United States.
