![]() Alexander ChristoforidisProfessor Alexander Christoforidis, AIA AICP joined the Division of Professional Practice faculty in February of 2006. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture, a Master of Architecture, and Master of City and Regional Planning from the Ohio State University. He became a certified planner in 1999, and has been a licensed and nationally certified architect since 1998. In 2001, he started his own architectural practice, Synthesis Architecture + Planning, where he has designed many residential, commercial and ecclesiastical projects, and provided planning consulting services for developers and other planning professionals. While in this capacity, he has employed several interns and co-op students from various universities. He has been awarded for his work, and holds top ratings with two consumer referral services. He has worked in various leading architectural and planning firms since 1987, including five years with Carl A. Strauss, FAIA, who has legendary status among contemporary Cincinnati architects. Professor Christoforidis has been an academic advisor and instructor at the Ohio State University, edited for the Journal of Planning Literature, and published several academic and professional articles. His specialties in architecture include modern residential design, and Byzantine Churches, while in planning, his areas of interest are the “new urban” movement and downtown revitalization. He has served as secretary of the board of directors for the AHEPA 127 Inc. housing corporation which built two federally subsidized low-income housing projects for the elderly. He is also a member of the American Institute of Architects and several other architectural and planning associations. Professor Christoforidis lives in Florence, Kentucky
with his wife Jennifer, and daughter Anna. He is an active member of Holy
Trinity St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, has been president of several
organizations within the parish, and was the director of its Greek School.
He has chaired several cultural exhibitions on ancient and contemporary Greece,
has volunteered in design and construction for Habitat for Humanity, and
advised many high school students in the Dan Beard Council ’s “explorers” program.
