Exploring Academic Internships

Course Description:

This course is designed to prepare students to maximize learning through a career related internship, acquaint students with employer performance expectations and assist in the development of the strategies and skills for effective participation in the employment process. Students will participate in the site selection for their internship experience. The course helps students close the gap between the academic application of business concepts and their pragmatic utilization in the workplace. Professionals will discuss career goals, planning, and internships.

Course Aspects:

Students enrolled in the PD 3000 course are immersed in 15 weeks of professional training and enhancement in addition to searching for desired internship positions. Taught by AIP advisors and educators, this course provides students with the tools and skills necessary to excel in the job search far beyond the parameters of their time at UC. 

During PD 3000, students will engage in the following:

  • Resume Building
  • Cover Letter Writing
  • Mock Interview Practice
  • Career Research
  • Professional Etiquette
  • Employer Networking
  • Job Searching Strategies

Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will have created an effective resume as well as gained insights into the interview process and the types of behaviors that are most likely to elicit a job offer.
  • Students will have gained insight into the types of behaviors that are most likely to lead to success in the workplace.
  • Students will have developed an understanding of the career options available to them as both an intern and as a college graduate
