Posted September 23, 2011
On August 16, 2011, the Academic Internship Program hosted its first UC Community Lunch to provide a program overview and update for approximately 80 advisors, faculty, and staff members. Cheryl Cates, Director of the Center for Cooperative Education Research and Innovation (CERI) opened the event, and was followed by presentations given by the Managers of Academic Internships, Annie Straka and Zach Osborne.
The highlight of the event featured two student presentations about their internship experiences. Organizational Leadership student Katie Brown discussed her role as a Volunteer Office Assistant intern at the WAVE Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Newport Aquarium. Brown’s experience with volunteer services at WAVE has enhanced her coursework for the Human Resources track within Organizational Leadership, and her internship has confirmed her goal to pursue a non-profit career.
Joe Case, an International Business major and Asian Studies minor, presented about his experience working as an intern at the Greater Cincinnati Chinese Chamber of Commerce. Case emphasized the invaluable connections he made with professionals who are engaged in the International Business field during his internship. He also spoke about the unique opportunity he had to spend the day with a group of delegates from Xiamen, China.
