Carolyn “Carney” Sotto, PhD is Associate Clinical Professor & Undergraduate Director in the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders in the College of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Cincinnati. She is also the Director of the First Year Experience for the College of Allied Health Sciences. Under her leadership (since 2007) every freshman in CAHS participates in some type of service-learning experience in the Greater Cincinnati area. She leads the development, administration and evaluation of FYE programs for the College of Allied Health Sciences to increase first-year student engagement, learning and achievement. She works collaboratively and provides support for faculty and staff who teach first year students. Dr. Sotto teaches in the areas of child language, literacy, phonology and assessment to graduate and undergraduate students on-campus and through distant learning in New York, Rural Ohio, and Israel. She has presented at numerous conferences and workshops in the areas of speech-language pathology, first year experience and service-learning. Dr. Sotto is currently President Elect of the Ohio Speech-Language-Hearing Association (OSLHA) and will be President beginning in July 2014. She is also Advisor to the UC Chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA) and Multicultural Concerns in Communication Disorders (MC2). She was selected National Advisor of the Year (in 2003) out of 300 NSSLHA Chapter Advisors in the USA. Dr. Sotto was awarded the 2010 Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award by the UC President. She has two children of her own who are both in college.
